WhatsApp is the most widely used chat platform which provides end-to-end encryption. When switching to an iOS device from an Android device or vice-versa, WhatsApp chat transfer is an operation that needs to be taken care of.
So far, users have relied on various third-party apps which use several workarounds to achieve this. According to WhatsApp, "apps that claim to move your WhatsApp chats between phones are altered versions of WhatsApp. These unofficial apps are developed by third parties and violate our Terms of Service. WhatsApp doesn't support these third-party apps because we can't validate their security practices."
According to reports, to put an end to this reliance on third-party apps for chat migration, WhatsApp is now testing the possibility to transfer chat history to a different WhatsApp platform. This might also be fueled by the fact that other popular encrypted chat services allow for the same. Nevertheless, this feature, if implemented, will prove beneficial for a wide range of users.
According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is putting a lot of effort to provide multi-device cross-platform support, which will allow the users to use a WhatsApp account on multiple devices at the same time. Part of this strategy is the chat migration feature. Though any official announcement from WhatsApp is still awaited, it is expected that a future update may bring in some quite interesting features to the app.
